About Vocational Training
What are Vocational Training Programs?
The Job Training/Job Placement and Employment Counseling Program helps to increase the job readiness/employ-ability of low-to-moderate income individuals. Our clients will successfully navigate the current job market, gain and improve skills needed, and achieve financial stability through long-term sustainable employment.
As part of our employment/career coaching and program services, eligible Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) clients can apply for available vocational training programs that fit their career goal.
*There is a $150 program deposit fee and it will be refunded after obtaining your certification and employment in the field of training.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for this program, you must have all of the following:
- Valid driver’s license or state ID
- Social Security Card
- Proof of at least a high school education/GED
- Ability to obtain work in U.S. legally
Before you can enroll, you must fulfill these requirements:
- FOC Orientation
- Submit Intake Form and Documents on JotForm (link shared after orientation)
- Complete TABE Testing
- Application Interview
- Coaching Session

Current Class Offerings
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Upcoming training program:
Currently on hold but we encourage you to begin the process by registering for our FOC orientation.
- To enroll in CDL program, applicant must be over age 21
Do you want to launch your career in truck driving? This Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training prepares you to obtain a Class A CDL issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Students learn the control, driving, and inspection skills needed to become a truck driver.
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)

Do you have a passion for healthcare? This Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training prepares you for entry-level work in the field of nursing. You will gain the knowledge and skills to safely care for residents/patients/clients, in all health care settings. The training provides a special focus on safety, the rights of all residents/patients/clients, and the ability to function within a CNA’s Scope of Practice. This tri-level course includes theory, skills lab, and clinical rotation in a Long Term Care Facility. After successful completion, you are eligible to take the State of Texas Certification Exam.
HVAC Technician

- Course consists of 12 topics
The air conditioning and heating technician (HVAC) training program is a comprehensive course designed to teach students the skills and techniques required for entry-level employment into the residential and light commercial, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning field. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to install, service, and maintain typical air conditioning and heating systems found in the southern environment of the United States. Graduates may find suitable entry-level employment with air conditioning companies, building maintenance departments, high rise building engineering departments, or other employment where HVAC skills are required. Graduates will learn with class lecture, discussion, and with hands-on experience in lab environments. They will also be exposed to a variety of actual equipment and mock-up situations designed to prepare them for fieldwork.
Phlebotomy Technician

The Phlebotomy Technician training program prepares you for a career in the administration and management of blood draws for diagnosis, transfusion and research purposes. You will gain knowledge of the human anatomy and skills to properly perform and care for residents/patients/clients who are in need of blood draws. The training provides other essential functions such as customer service techniques and record keeping. The role as a phlebotomist in the medical field is essential in ensuring accurate blood samples in health testing. After successful completion, you will be eligible to take the certification exam through the National Healthcare Association.
